What is a Baseline?

In project management, Baselines are a snapshot of what was planned before beginning a project. Baselines typically track the planned start date and end date of each work item on a project.

Baselines help your team understand whether the actual execution of a project has deviated from what was planned

Enabling Baselines in Hive

To access baselines in Hive, you'll want to go to "Hive Apps" and enable "Baselines". Doing this will enable Baselines for all projects in your workspace.

Taking a Baseline snapshot

If you go to a project's home/overview screen, you'll see a new section called "Baselines". From there, you can take baseline snapshots based on the start and end dates on actions in the project.

Using Baseline data

Once you've taken a Baseline snapshot of a project, Hive stores the "Planned Start Date" and "Planned End Date" of each Action in the project.

You can view the Baseline data by exporting the project to Excel/CSV. In the export, you'll see two new columns: "Planned Start Date" and "Planned End Date". You can use these values to compare the "planned" data from the Baseline to the "actual" data as a result of project execution.
