The Dates field on the action card puts the due date, due time, start date, repeat and your reminder in one place. Reminders are personal: each assignee sets their own, and changing yours never changes anyone else's.
This date picker is on the action card. List, Table and Gantt views, and Hive on a mobile browser, keep their own date pickers.
Set a due date
Open the action card and click the date field in the right panel. If the action has no dates, it shows Add date.
In the Due field, type a date or pick one from the calendar. You can type shortcuts such as tom, a weekday, +3d, oct 9 or fri 5pm. A weekday means the next one, never today. Today takes the calendar back to the current month; click a day to pick it.
Optionally, add a due time: click the clock in the Due field and type a time (it starts at 9:00 AM).
Click Done. Clicking outside the picker also saves. Press Esc to close it without saving.
Once an action has a due date, you can also click the time next to the date in the date field (Add time or the current time) and choose 9 AM, 12 PM or 5 PM, or type a time. This saves right away.
To set a date range, click + Start date.
To clear the dates, hover over the date field and click ×. A Dates cleared message appears with an Undo button. You can also click Clear in the picker: it empties the fields, and the change saves when you click Done or click outside (there's no Undo, and Esc cancels it).
If the project has weekends off and you pick a weekend day, Hive tells you it is a non-working day in this project. Choose Use anyway or Pick another day. Workspace holidays don't trigger this message.
At the bottom of the picker:
Adjust due dates of subactions appears after you change the due date of an action that has subactions.
Lock dates is shown to project owners and workspace admins. Locked dates can only be changed by project owners and workspace admins.
Repeat an action
In the date picker, open Repeat.
Choose Daily, Weekly, Every weekday (Mon–Fri), Monthly or Annually (Weekly, Monthly and Annually name the day they repeat on), or choose Custom… for more options.
A repeat icon appears in the date field when the action repeats. To stop repeating, open Repeat again and click the × next to the selected option. Repeat needs a start or due date. A subaction of a repeating action repeats with its parent and can't have its own repeat. For more on repeat options, see Recurring Actions.
Set your reminder
Only assignees can set a reminder, and the reminder is for you alone. Your role also needs the reminder permission; if it doesn't, Hive shows You don't have permission to set reminders on this action.
In the date picker, open Reminder.
Choose when to be reminded: 2 hours before, 1 day before, 2 days before or 1 week before. Each option shows the exact time the reminder will go out.
Under Notify via, In-app is always on. Email is also on by default; untick it if you only want the in-app reminder.
Click Done, or click outside the picker, to save.
For a different time, choose Custom…. In Custom reminder, enter an amount, choose minutes, hours or days, and choose before or after the due date. The panel shows when it will remind you. Click Set reminder, then Done to save.
Once you have a reminder, a bell appears in the date field. Click it to open your reminder in Custom reminder.
To turn your reminder off, open Reminder and click the × next to the selected option (or click Remove in Custom reminder), then click Done.
How reminders work
Reminders are personal: Each assignee sets their own reminder. Setting or removing yours doesn't change a teammate's. If you are removed as an assignee, your reminder is removed too. If you're the only assignee and someone replaces you, your reminder passes to them.
Everyone still gets the due-time notification: When an action has a due time, every assignee gets an in-app notification (and a push notification in the Hive mobile app) 15 minutes before it, whether or not they set a reminder. It shows as the first row under Reminder with a lock, and it can't be changed. Without a due time, the row says Add a due time.
Where reminders go: Your reminder arrives in Hive and, if Email is on, by email. Personal reminders don't send a mobile push notification.
It moves with the due date: When you change an action's due date (on the card, in List or Table, or by dragging it in Gantt), your reminder moves by the same number of days and keeps its time. It doesn't move when dates change in bulk or automatically (for example, through dependencies, date sync or Adjust due dates of subactions).
No due time: If the action has a due date but no time, reminder times count from 9:00 AM on the due date, in your time zone.
Reminders need a due date: Without one, the reminder options show Needs a due date. A preset that would go out in the past can't be chosen. If you clear the due date after setting a reminder, the reminder still goes out at its original time, so remove it if you no longer need it.
Completed and archived actions: Reminders aren't sent for actions that are completed or archived.
Repeating actions: Your reminder applies to the current occurrence only. When the next occurrence is created, it doesn't have your reminder, so set it again. The 15-minute due-time notification still applies to every occurrence with a due time.
Locked dates: If the dates are locked, assignees can still set or remove their own reminder: click the bell in the date field (the action needs a due date).
Synced dates: If an action's dates sync from its subactions, its dates are read-only and you can't set a reminder on it. Repeat can still be changed.
Duplicates: Duplicating an action doesn't copy reminders. Set yours again on the new action.
For syncing dates from subactions, see Action card date sync.
