Roadmap is a display option inside Timeline view. Use it when you want a visual plan of scheduled Hive actions — grouped into swimlanes, annotated with notes and arrows, and easy to share.
It is built for project and portfolio teams that need a flexible way to organize, present, and export a larger project roadmap.
Turn on Roadmap
Open a project and add a Timeline tab if you do not already have one.
Open Configure in the upper right.
In the View dropdown, switch from Timeline to Roadmap.
Roadmap settings are saved on that Timeline tab. Switch back to Timeline in the same Configure panel anytime you want the standard Timeline layout.
Set up the roadmap
Still in Configure, shape the canvas:
Timeline range: Choose the start and end dates shown on the axis. The range must be at least one month and no more than five years.
Group by: Create swimlanes by Section or Label.
Sections or Labels: Select which groups appear as lanes. When grouping by label, you can search labels and select several at once.
Actions appear on the roadmap when they have a date in the selected range and belong to a selected section or label. Click the title or subtitle at the top of the canvas to rename the roadmap (defaults are Project roadmap and a subtitle you can add).
Note: Switching Group by from Label to Section (or the reverse) clears the selected lanes, text boxes, and arrows for that view. Re-select lanes after you change grouping.
Read the canvas
Each selected section or label becomes a swimlane. Dated actions show as milestone markers on the timeline. Drag lanes to reorder them around the date axis.
Zoom the canvas to fit more or less of the plan on screen. If too many actions match, Roadmap shows up to 250 actions and prompts you to add filters so the matching set is smaller.
Add text boxes and arrows
Use the Draw menu on the roadmap header to annotate the plan:
Choose Text box to add a note. Drag it into place and resize it. Click it to edit the text, text color, or background color, or delete the box.
Choose Arrow, then draw a connector between lanes to show sequence, handoff, or progress.
Click an action marker to customize how it appears on the roadmap (display title and text color) without changing the underlying action’s name in Hive.
Draw is available after at least one section or label lane is selected.
Export the roadmap
Open the More menu (three dots) in the upper right.
Choose Export to save an image of the roadmap for stakeholders.
When to use Roadmap vs Timeline
Roadmap: Presenting a high-level plan by workstream (labels or sections), adding callouts, and sharing a visual.
Timeline: Day-to-day scheduling, columns, and moving action dates on the grid. See Timeline View.
