Use Resource estimates to plan how many hours a project needs from each role or person. The spreadsheet-style planner lets you enter estimates week by week, paste hours from a spreadsheet, and see where existing scheduled work needs your attention.
Open Resource estimates
Open the Resourcing app.
Open the More menu and select Resource estimates.
Select a Project.
For weekly planning, choose Week under View. Use the arrows to move through the planning window, or Today to return to the current period.
You need access to Resourcing and permission to edit the selected project’s resourcing. Open the full Resourcing app if you are viewing a read-only dashboard widget.
Plan by role or person
Use Add row to select a resource type or a named person.
Resource types let you estimate the roles you need before choosing who will do the work—for example, Designer or Project Manager.
People let you plan hours for a specific team member.
For example, you could add a Designer row and estimate 16 hours for one week and 24 hours for the next. Each value is the total for that week, not the number of hours per day.
Enter and update hours
Choose Tentative edits or Confirmed edits before entering hours. This setting applies to the estimates you save.
Click the cell where the resource row and week meet.
Enter the number of hours, then click away to save.
Repeat for the remaining weeks and resources.
You can enter decimal hours, such as 7.5. To clear an estimate, delete its value or enter 0, then click away. Check the save status before moving on.
Paste hours from a spreadsheet
Add the resource rows you need in Hive.
Arrange your spreadsheet so its rows match the visible resource rows in Hive and its columns match the weeks you want to fill.
Copy the cells containing hours. Leave out names, dates, headings, and totals.
In Hive, click the first destination cell and paste using Command + V on Mac or Ctrl + V on Windows.
Check the saved values and the paste confirmation.
Pasting fills cells across and down from the selected starting cell. It does not match spreadsheet names to people automatically or create missing rows. Make sure the full range fits within the visible rows and weeks before pasting.
Important: Pasted values replace existing estimates. Blank cells are treated as zero and clear estimates in their destination cells. Copy only the range you intend to update.
Handle scheduling conflicts
A cell marked Scheduled has overlapping work already scheduled in Resourcing. These cells are read-only in the planner.
Return to the main Resourcing schedule.
Find the existing assignment for that resource, project, and period.
Review or update that assignment there. If you intend to replace it with an estimate, resolve the overlapping schedule first.
Return to Resource estimates and enter or paste your hours once the cell is available.
If a paste includes a cell marked Scheduled, Hive rejects that paste before saving it. Resolve the overlap or copy a smaller range that contains only editable cells, then paste again.
Review estimates in Resourcing
Saved estimates appear in the Resourcing timeline. Click an estimate bar to return to its project and period in the planner. Edit estimate hours in the planner; estimate bars cannot be dragged like regular scheduled assignments.
Troubleshooting
A person is missing or cannot be added: Check that they have access to the selected project.
A paste reports invalid hours: Copy numeric hour values only. Remove headings, text such as “hours,” and negative values.
Only part of the range fits: Add the required resource rows and move to the correct date window before pasting smaller sections.
A save fails: Read the error and review the displayed values before retrying.
