Can I wrap text in Table View and dashboard widgets?

Written by Ellen Kajca

Yes. Hive has two different wrap settings:

  • Wrap column in Table View wraps the text inside the cells of one column, so you can read long titles and descriptions without opening the action card.

  • Wrap column headers in a dashboard widget wraps the column names at the top of the widget.

Wrap the text in a Table View column

  1. Open the project tab that uses Table View.

  2. Hover over the column header. You can wrap the Title column, the Description column, and text custom field columns.

  3. Click the 3 dots.

  4. Click Wrap column.

To go back to one line, do the same steps and click Unwrap column.

Wrap the column headers in a dashboard widget

Long column names can wrap onto up to 3 lines. You can use this in Actions list, Risks and issues, Goals list, Projects list and Gantt widgets, and in older Table widgets.

  1. On the dashboard, hover over the widget and click the gear icon (Configure widget).

  2. Select Wrap column headers.

  3. Click Save.

This setting is off by default, and you set it on each widget. Turn it on for every widget where you want wrapped headers. Only people who can edit the dashboard can change it.

Good to know

  • Column headers wrap only in dashboard widgets. In a project's Table View, a long header stays on one line. To see more of it, drag the column border to make the column wider.

  • People who open the dashboard through a public link also see the wrapped headers. A public link does not show custom field columns in a Gantt widget.
