Time Filters

Time reporting offers the most comprehensive filtering options, with different sets of filters depending on the specific time metric you're reporting on.

Use one date range for time and budget reporting

In Hive on the web, add Time & budget dates from the dashboard’s filters or a widget’s Filter by section. It applies one range to Date of time logged and Budget & costs dates, wherever those filters are supported by the widget. For a widget that supports only one of these filters, it applies to that filter only.

Which date range takes priority?

  • While Time & budget dates is set, it overrides the separate Date of time logged and Budget & costs dates ranges. Their saved values are retained and apply again when the combined filter is removed.

  • A widget inherits the dashboard’s Time & budget dates range unless the widget has its own Time & budget dates filter or is configured to ignore dashboard filters. A widget’s own combined range takes priority.

  • Setting only a separate date filter on the widget does not override an inherited combined range. To give that widget a different combined reporting period, set Time & budget dates on the widget itself.

Example: If the dashboard’s Time & budget dates is set to This month, a widget’s separate Budget & costs dates set to Lifetime is overridden. Set the widget’s own Time & budget dates to Last month to use that period for the widget instead.

Filter estimated time by action dates

When a Time chart includes an estimate-based metric, such as estimated time or estimated cost, you can narrow the contributing actions using Action due dates or Completed date.

  1. Edit the widget and choose the estimate-based metric you want to report on.

  2. In the widget’s filters, add Action due dates to include actions due within a date range, or Completed date to include actions completed within a date range.

  3. Select the range and save the widget.

For example, use Action due dates to report estimates for actions due next quarter, or Completed date to report estimates for actions completed last month.

For estimate-based reporting, these two action-date filters must be set on the widget itself; they are not inherited from the dashboard’s global filters. Leave them unset if you do not want to restrict estimates by action dates.

Other time-period filters still apply, so check both the reporting period and the action-date range if estimates are missing. These options do not change how actual logged time is filtered.

Filter Tips

  • Multiple Selection: Most filters support selecting multiple options

  • "None" Options: Many filters include a "None" option to capture unassigned items

  • Date Ranges: Date filters support both preset ranges (This Week, Last Month) and custom date ranges

  • Custom Fields: Custom field filters adapt to show the specific fields configured in your workspace

  • Filter Combinations: Combine multiple filters to create highly specific reports

Filter Availability by Report Type

Different dashboard widgets will show different subsets of these filters based on what data they're designed to display. The system automatically shows only the relevant filters for each widget type to keep the interface clean and focused.
