Visualize work patterns with Dashboard Heatmaps

Use heatmaps to quickly identify where workload, time, and risk are concentrated across your projects.

Written by Michaela Rollings

Dashboard Heatmaps turn complex workspace data into a color-coded grid. Instead of scanning long lists or reports, you can quickly see where work is accumulating, which projects need attention, and how activity changes over time.

Create a heatmap

  1. Open Dashboards and add a Chart Builder widget.

  2. Select Heatmap as the chart type.

  3. Choose what should appear in the rows and columns.

  4. Select the value the heatmap should measure.

  5. Apply any project, assignee, status, label, priority, or date filters.

  6. Save the widget.

What you can visualize

Heatmaps can help you understand patterns such as:

  • Workload by assignee and week

  • Overdue actions by project and week

  • Tracked or estimated time by project

  • Risks and issues by project and priority

  • Work distribution across teams, clients, or statuses

Read your heatmap

Each cell represents the intersection of its row and column.

  • Stronger color intensity indicates a higher value.

  • Empty cells indicate that no matching data was found.

  • Hover over a cell to see its categories, value, and underlying item count.

This makes it easy to identify clusters, unusually busy periods, and areas that may require attention.

Share and export heatmaps

Heatmaps work with Dashboard sharing and reporting tools. You can include them in shared dashboards and capture them in Dashboard exports.

For accessible reporting, the exact value remains available in the cell tooltip, so the chart does not rely on color alone.
